SPECIAL BULLETIN ...

The date and location of this year's Firehouse Fundraiser has been changed.

The new date?  Saturday, March 15th!  The new venue?  Blue Lake Casino!

Business Spotlight:

This week, the Business Spotlight is shining on HealthSport. This business has been around in one form or another for about 23 years, according to Sunriser Susan Jansson (who has been helping people stay fit for 26 years!).  All three locations offer "all kinds of different fitness programs".

Visit any location - Arcata, Fortuna, or McKinleyville - and you can pick up a trivia question/answer, sign the clipboard, and receive a gift! Head on out now ... time's a-wastin'! For more on HealthSport, click on the logo.

Notes From Our Last Meeting

On behalf of the Financial Assistance Committee and the Club, Randy Mendosa and President Lori presented a check to the Arcata Endeavor last Friday, in support of its extreme weather housing program. John Shelter, the Endeavor's Executive Director, accepted the donation, saying, "Thank you - this will allow us to operate an additional seven nights."  John said that the program has had no negative impact on the facility or on the community.

The Dictionary Project is underway. Brian Reeser and other Sunrisers were scheduled to give dictionaries to the third graders at Jacoby Creek School on Monday, followed by a visit to Pacific Union tomorrow (Thursday). Finally, we will be at Arcata Elementary on Wednesday, January 23rd. Your presence is more than welcome - the times are listed in the For Your Calendar section to your right.   à à à

President Lori and the Club welcomed back Former Club President Joyce Hinrichs, who has been on leave for a few months. Joyce isn't quite back into the old Friday morning routine, though - "I didn't dry my hair today," she said.

Congratulations to Brianna Cavinta, who won $80 in last week's Ping Pong Ball Raffle!

Special Daze
According to George Cavinta, his recent birthday brought him "halfway to the age of the average Rotarian".  If it hadn't been for my bursitis, I would have gone over and whacked him with my cane! The 45-year old whippersnapper said that he celebrated with friends at the Plaza Grill, and his wife made cake.

Randy Mendosa spent his 50th birthday "right here at the Community Center". Randy attended the memorial service for legendary Arcata firefighter Archie Bernardi. We hope that he and the family got in at least some partying.

When President Lori asked whether Lynda Moore's recent birthday was "39 again", she was told that it was "28 again".  Lynda said, "I'm going backward now." Lynda had planned to celebrate her birthday with all of us, since it fell on Friday, January 4th. Unfortunately, that was not the only thing to fall on that day. First, Lynda's power went out. So they started the generator, and she was soon on her way. But the other thing that fell was a tree that blocked the road. Fortunately, Lynda was able to make it to dinner that evening with friends.

Bryan Plumley was another Sunriser with a landmark birthday - he turned 40 on January 10th. Bryan said that the skies parted on that day, and he was able to play a round of golf. That evening, he had dinner with his wife and their 4-year olds. Always wanting to set an example for his kids, "We went to Six Rivers Brewery". An example? Yes ... A good one? Hmmm ... okay, yeah!
