Club President 2007-2008: Lori Breyer Editor: Dick Johnson |
|
Business Spotlight Club President Lori Breyer wants you to go back to school! This week's Business Spotlight is on Arcata High School, at 1720 M Street. It's Homecoming Week, so don't be surprised if the students are dressed in their class colors, or tie-dyed outfits, or even as a Superhero in Pajamas! Lori says that if you come dressed in Orange and Black (the school colors), you'll get an extra something at this Friday's meeting. Go Tigers! |
1720 M Street, Arcata The clipboard will be in the attendance office with Kristie. Hours are 7:30 to 4. |
| Notes From Our Last Meeting | |

Although John Wesa was not at Friday's
meeting, his efforts at the recent Pastels on the Plaza did not go
unrecognized. John planned and did the bulk of the work preparing the
Arcata Sunrise Rotary panel for the event. For photos and more
information, check out the entry in our
Club Blog, Scholarship Committee Chair Leslie Lawson introduced Robin North, who was our 2006 Perpetual Scholarship winner. We continue to support Robin, who is now attending classes at Columbia College, at its Fort Stewart, Georgia campus. She moved to Georgia when her husband was recently deployed to Iraq. She was pleased to be back in Arcata after seven long months, but she will soon start her third and final eight-week semester. She has an agreement with her husband that she doesn't have to work, as long as she gets straight A's. So far, so good! The Taste of the Holidays is approaching fast! Sign-up sheets were flying through the Senior Dining Center last Friday. If you didn't get a chance to sign up, watch for the next flights this Friday. If you need signs or flyers, please contact Wendy Madsen. We passed the hat two weeks ago for the American Cancer Society, as a response to Scott Heller's generous donation of the previous week. Last Friday, Scott reported that when the hat was finally retrieved, it contained $428 to be contributed to the fight against cancer. President Lori reminded us that this weekend is the Foundation Dinner, at the Cultural Center in Crescent City. Be there if you can. BUT if you can't, don't miss the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets. They are $20 each, or six for $100. It's a great way to add to your Paul Harris Sustaining Fellowship, and possibly win a great prize! Bring your checkbook this Friday to get in on the action. |

| Special Daze | |
| Last Friday was Karen Burgesser's birthday, and President Lori invoked a long-dormant Arcata Sunrise tradition, waiving Karen's fine since her birthday fell on a meeting day (and she still attended). Lori asked about her plans for the day. "I'm working," she said. However, she did get in some celebrating the previous week. Karen was in Boston on behalf of Winzler and Kelly, and she took along her mother. They had a great time. | |
